About the Company
HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, with more than 25,000 employees, including third-, fourth-, and fifth-generation shipbuilders. NNS is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The team comprises diverse professionals, from skilled trades to engineers, software developers, and technical subject matter experts, working at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of advanced naval ships.
About the Role
The Operational Strategy team collaborates across the enterprise to establish investment and partnership strategies that meet customer demand, improve company performance, and introduce new technologies into the shipyard. In this position, you will lead operational strategy development to increase shipbuilding throughput, analyze constraints and opportunities, identify solutions (both internal and through partnerships), and guide stakeholders to execute the strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional teams to develop investment strategies across operations, supply chain, workforce, and infrastructure.
- Conduct diagnostic analyses to identify constraints and opportunities.
- Identify and implement new technologies and processes to streamline operations.
- Manage execution of initiatives by partnering with stakeholders across the company.
- Lead internal teams and coordinate with initiative owners to develop and execute value creation plans, roadmaps, and business cases.
- Prepare strategy documents for senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare cross-program reporting on strategy, investments, and execution of improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:
- Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience.
- Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience.
- Ph.D. and 4 years of relevant experience.
- NNS Apprentice School graduate (equivalent to Bachelor's Degree).
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (equivalent to Bachelor's Degree).
- Associate's Degree or other formal 2-year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience.
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience (equivalent to Bachelor's Degree).
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant exempt experience.
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience, or other relevant non-exempt experience.
