About the role

The Northern Region Administrative Services team is recruiting to fill a Business Service Officer I (Supervisor) position in Redding. The incumbent is responsible for customer service, license sales, and accounts payable through supervising staff in Redding and Eureka. This is a unique opportunity to support California’s abundant and diverse natural resources with the work you perform in an office setting.

Opportunities are provided, but not required, to visit field project sites and remote facilities to see how your work directly impacts our resources. As the Business Service Officer I, no two days are the same. Each day will provide a learning opportunity and the satisfaction of contributing to the Department's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff in Redding and Eureka to ensure efficient customer service, license sales, and accounts payable operations.
  • Oversee daily administrative functions in an office setting.
  • Occasionally travel to field project sites and remote facilities to observe the impact of administrative work on natural resources.
  • Travel to meetings, including those with direct reports in Eureka, which may require overnight stays.
  • Use a state-owned vehicle for travel between remote facilities where public transportation is not readily available.

Working Conditions

  • This position is designated as office-based and is not eligible for telework.
  • Work takes place in an office setting under artificial light.
  • Involves prolonged periods of sitting at a computer, with brief periods of standing and walking.
  • Daily, frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, computer, scanners, and phone.
  • Occasional exposure to weapons, carcasses, and undesirable smells, particularly during hunting season.

Additional desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience with FI$CAL.
  • Knowledge of hunting and fishing regulations.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, and Teams.

Pay

$5,429.00 - $6,719.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. The salary ranges listed may not reflect these reductions. More information about the 2025 Personal Leave Program.
