About the role
The Division of Finance & Operations at UMSL is seeking a Manager III, Business Administration (Business Manager).
Responsibilities
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the business and financial policy and practices of the University; identify, troubleshoot and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems and coordinate resources and priorities to meet operational objectives.
- Perform and sometimes direct actions related to accounting, budgeting, financial planning, payroll and contracts.
- Collect, track and provide business information and non-academic metrics to guide the organization to on-target performance.
- Provide business and operational support to units, assess current and future staffing needs of the unit and plan accordingly.
- Provide assistance with training, supporting and guiding campus employees with fiscal responsibility.
- Project and monitor budget performance for financially related operations.
- Participate in the development of standard processes and tools for all financial functions with all other business and functional managers within the finance organization.
- Maintain an environment of compliance to fiscal policies and procedures, ensure transactions are properly documented and authorized, and ensure adequacy of internal controls to safeguard assets and minimize risk.
- Liaise with MU Shared Services, HR, IT and other campus functional areas to conduct business operations.
- Understand the execution of hiring strategy and initiate hiring orders, payroll and position changes.
- Configure and maintain financial authorizations.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

- Ability to work under pressure and within deadlines with administrators, executives, faculty, and staff.
- Goal oriented and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Aptitude for consensus building and the ability to maintain positive constituent and colleague relationships through constructive communication skills and professionalism.
- Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
