General Summary
The Business Manager supports the Pastor in managing the financial and facilities operations of the parish and school. They assist with the stewardship of resources and provide administrative support.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordination of Parish Ministries and Services
- Oversee coordination, collaboration, and recruitment of all ministries and services
- Direct scheduling for all parish activities
- Avoid inadequate space and materials for service delivery
- Personnel Responsibilities
- Assist Pastor in recruiting, hiring, and dismissing employees
- Maintain an adequate level of knowledge on current employment laws
- Supervise all parish employees not directly accountable to the pastor
- Update parish addendum to the employee handbook
- Ensure new employees complete background clearance, provide orientation, and have introductions and expectations
- Establish and maintain position descriptions and personnel evaluations for employees
- Facilitate communications within parish departments and outside agencies or groups
- Coordinate insurance and other benefit programs of the parish
- Serve as Family and Medical Leave Administrator and Safe Environment Coordinator
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Coordinate with staff and volunteers for staff planning and operational meetings
- Conduct significant dialogue with the pastor
- Attend diocesan training and workshops
- Prepare for staff meetings and other committee meetings
- Financial Responsibilities
- Affirm sound financial management practices
- Develop and monitor budgets
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to parishioners, the diocese, and various government agencies
- Ensure proper deposit, disbursement, and accounting for all parish community-related funds
- Oversight of all major fundraising activities
- Seek approval from the Pastor for financial and temporal transactions
- Review budget and financial reports in conjunction with the pastor, bookkeeper, and finance council
- Act as a liaison on behalf of parish with diocese and other entities regarding fiscal responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Pastor
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related business discipline from an accredited college
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with employees at all levels
- Ability to face situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others
- High level of computer expertise in Microsoft Office products
- Practicing Catholic and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community, preferred
- Respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines, and laws of the Roman Catholic faith
- Flexible, innovative in a fast-paced, time-critical environment, and the ability to work independently
- Organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, resolve complex problems, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including ability to produce clear, concise reports and recommendations and make presentations to varied groups
- Exercises considerable independence and judgment with a high level of confidentiality
- Successful experience in a supervisory capacity
- Pass the required fingerprint background check prior to employment and every five years
