About the Role

The Business Intelligence Manager leads the team responsible for the strategic planning, application, and execution of business intelligence solutions at Midwest Veterinary Supply. This critical role works closely with the leadership team, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to design and deliver analytics capabilities, drive projects and roadmaps, and develop data strategy and team development. The role is hybrid, based out of our Lakeville, MN Corporate office, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Midwest leadership team and stakeholders from Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, HR, Compliance, and Finance to design and deliver analytics capabilities that identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead a team of analysts, developers, and partners to design and deliver BI solutions, including hiring, mentoring, and setting individual and team goals.
  • Prioritize workloads to align with company objectives, enforce quality standards, and create growth opportunities to retain talent.
  • Define and execute the enterprise BI vision, including scoping, feasibility, and delivery of analytics solutions.
  • Research tools, lead product decisions, and balance risk, dependencies, and ROI.
  • Develop roadmaps to drive timely adoption, align BI strategy with business goals, provide organizational guidance, and address process or system gaps.
  • Lead and manage projects, prioritizing high-impact initiatives, defining scope, aligning stakeholder expectations, and ensuring successful delivery with knowledge transfer.
  • Leverage data insights, manage leadership expectations, incorporate user feedback, and maintain a prioritized backlog.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has 3-8 direct reports.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 5-7 years of hands-on experience in a technical field required; experience in Business Intelligence preferred.
    • 2+ years in leadership of BI or as a lead within a BI team with a proven track record of architecting and delivering BI capabilities on a large scale.
    • 3+ years of data modeling or content building for self-service business intelligence, analytics, and data modeling for end-user applications including Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics/TM1.
    • Experience with relational databases such as Db2, Oracle, MS SQL Server, or similar is preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Communication & Influence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
    • Technical Expertise: Intermediate to advanced SQL proficiency, understanding of data warehousing, and familiarity with ETL tools (e.g., DataStage). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Business Acumen & Transformation: Strong business and emotional intelligence, ability to lead change, and a results-oriented mindset.
    • Organizational & Problem-solving Skills: Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and solve complex problems independently.
    • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Proactive approach to process improvement and commitment to staying current with industry trends.

Mental & Physical Demands

  • Mental Effort: Attention to detail, regular interaction with people, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Requirements: Close vision, frequent use of telephone and computer, and ability to work at a desk throughout the day.
  • Work Environment: Indoor, temperature-controlled setting with moderate exposure to dust and dirt. Work is typically Monday through Friday, with at least three days in the office. May require more than 40 hours per week and on-call reliability.
