About the role
This position focuses on documenting key business areas and concepts through reverse engineering of models, as well as analyzing and creating metadata (definitions, etc.). While posted as a Business Intelligence Data Modeler, we seek someone with experience in both application and data warehouse database modeling. The role involves documenting key metadata on current production application databases and working independently with guidance from a senior Data Architect.
Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for data architecture, ensuring all relevant aspects (e.g., granularity) are considered.
- Analyze logical and physical database models to guarantee compliance with standards.
- Document and define key metadata around database architecture.
- Translate technical data modeling concepts (facts, dimensions, "snowflaking," etc.) into language accessible to non-technical users.
- Collaborate with technologists and non-technical users with ease and approachability.
- Recommend data maintenance tactics for slowly changing dimensions, data roll-off, and archival planning.
- Design models optimized for storage (warehouse) and query/retrieval (end-user marts).
- Perform analysis and testing of relational databases, investigating data load failures or retrieval issues.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in both application and data warehouse database modeling.
- 5+ years of experience with ERWIN data modeling software.
- 5+ years of experience in reverse-engineering data structures and metadata development.
- 6+ years of advanced experience in Oracle PL/SQL.
- High School diploma or equivalent (required).
Skills
- Conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling.
- Database design and creation of database objects.
- ERWIN Data Modeling Software.
- Data analysis and SQL scripting (creating and reviewing).
- Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle 11g/DB2/SQL Server, and Oracle data dictionary views.
- Metadata tools and documentation experience.
- Data quality assessment and profiling.
- Excellent organization, analytical, and communication skills.
Pay
$47.91 - $50.18 per hour.
Schedule
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
