Business Intelligence Data Manager
About the Role
The Business Intelligence Data Manager is responsible for building and maintaining a portfolio of data visualizations, data tools, and other products that support the goals, strategies, and decision-making of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) and its staff. This position serves as the project manager for data collection, transformation, and reporting through the CHEDSS system and acts as the primary Business Intelligence liaison to the Academic Affairs team.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance the agency’s existing portfolio of business intelligence products for internal and external stakeholders, aligning with team and agency reporting strategy.
- Lead the annual CHEDSS data collection process, including communication with institutional partners, troubleshooting submission errors, and data clean-up tasks.
- Build and maintain data visualizations, reports, tools, and analysis products for internal and external CHEDSS users in coordination with the Academic Affairs team.
- Support and maintain business processes that enhance business intelligence capacity building.
- Act as a liaison with institutional partners and CHEDSS users to ensure efficient and effective utilization of data across the agency.
- Deliver accountability data products to internal and external stakeholders, meeting consistent, high-quality agency standards.
- Coordinate with the Academic Affairs team to deliver data products that fulfill legislative requirements, such as Under Threshold Program Review and Academic Program Review.
- Strategically manage CHEDSS feature proposals and development requests to the agency’s IT vendor.
- Collaborate with team members to create and improve dashboards, reports, and data products hosted on the public CHE website and internal Business Intelligence Hub.
- Ensure timely fulfillment of recurring data requests to both internal and external requestors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience using data analysis tools (Excel, SPSS, R, Python, etc.), data querying tools (Microsoft SQL), and visualization software (Tableau or PowerBI).
- Demonstrated experience managing, cleaning, and transforming large datasets or database systems.
- Demonstrated experience performing descriptive and diagnostic analyses, preferably with data related to higher education, secondary education, and/or workforce development.
- Familiarity with privacy laws (e.g., FERPA) and data governance best practices.
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, listening, information processing, and synthesizing.
- Problem-solving and analytical proficiency with careful attention to detail.
- Ability to translate complex issues into easily understandable formats for a range of stakeholder audiences.
- Effective communication with coworkers and customers.

Pay
