Business Development Sales Representative
MFA Oil Company, formed in 1929, is a farmer-owned cooperative and a leading propane retailer in the United States. The company supplies fuels, lubricants, and propane to customers in Missouri, Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Through subsidiaries, MFA Oil operates Break Time convenience stores, a Big O Tires franchise, BluSphere Energy (solar panel installation), and APM (wholesale fuel distribution).
About the role
As a Business Development Sales Representative, you will represent MFA Oil’s extensive product lines and services, developing and securing new fuel, propane, and lubricant customers while ensuring the best combination of products and services for existing customers.
Responsibilities
- Travel throughout the assigned territory to make sales calls and actively work to secure new customers and manage existing customer relationships.
- Direct approximately 80% of time and efforts to active sales calls and prospecting.
- Accurately complete and manage sales tracking reports and forms within specified timelines.
- Accurately and persuasively present products, services, and the benefits of doing business with MFA Oil Company through current knowledge of all MFA Oil products and services.
- Prepare required sales documentation, obtain appropriate signatures and approvals, and deliver completed documentation.
- Evaluate potential customer needs and use knowledge of MFA Oil products, services, and processes to strategize to meet those needs.
- Work directly with the Sr Business Development Manager, District Managers, and operational staff to develop strategies to meet customer needs.
- Work closely with distribution centers on customer needs and requests.
- Develop necessary knowledge to present a positive image to MFA Oil customers as a commercial and industrial fuel specialist.
- Assist the Marketing Department, Laboratory, and Moberly Business Support Campus with customer service in field-related issues when necessary.
- Adhere to company and position-specific policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sales, or related field or a minimum of three years’ experience in sales.
- Industry knowledge and/or overall knowledge of company operations and products.
- Ability to understand technical documents related to fuels and lubricants.
- Strong public relations skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with salesforce, customers, prospective customers, and coworkers.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and develop plans for achieving goals.
- Ability to motivate others regarding the importance of product quality compliance.
- Physical strength and dexterity to walk, stand, bend, climb, reach, stoop, twist, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English to communicate with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Valid/current driver’s license.
- Frequent statewide and regional travel throughout assigned territory, which may involve overnight stays.
- Must meet Company requirements, including successful background and MVR check, and drug test.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
