About the Role
The Business Development Manager (BDM) FMS is responsible for developing new customer business within an assigned sales territory. The incumbent educates and develops prospects' value perception of Ryder's services using the Ryder Sales Process, including developing sales plans, analyzing profitability, and understanding competitive influences and risks for each account.
Responsibilities
- Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts.
- Build and maintain a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues.
- Proactively respond to leads furnished.
- Represent the full spectrum of Ryder services.
- Collaborate with Account Representatives (ARs) and Customer Development Managers (CDMs) to transition accounts and increase sales opportunities.
- Work with National Sales to generate sales opportunities within the assigned territory.
- Ensure completion of new customer orientation.
- Develop Dedicated Contract Carriage (DCC) opportunities with District Sales Directors (DSDs).
- Identify prospect needs and requirements through quality needs assessment and value-based proposal preparation.
- Develop and refine account selling strategies to improve effectiveness.
- Familiarize General Managers (GMs) and CDMs with sales in progress and their potential impact.
- Contribute to an effective transition of accounts sold.
- Perform administrative functions necessary to support accounts.
- Report sales activity to management and comply with sales protocol and Sales Operations Manual (SOM) requirements.
- Create supportive working relationships with Commercial Business Units (CBUs).
- Leverage resources (e.g., Maintenance, Safety, Finance) to expand new opportunities.
- Develop account profile information for all prospect solicitations.
- Focus on training, improving sales skills, industry knowledge, and personal growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of demonstrated consecutive sales excellence (quota achievement) in prior sales roles.
- Good understanding of Ryder’s product offerings; ability to represent the full spectrum of Ryder’s services.
- Advanced ability to interpret financial data.

Pay
Salaried position with a pay range of $68,000 – $80,000. Eligible for annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on role level/type.
