Business Development Manager
About the role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Manager to expand our presence within the sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure market. This role is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, building long-term client relationships, and supporting strategic growth across municipal, utility, engineering, and private-sector markets.
Responsibilities
- Identify and develop new business opportunities within sanitary sewer and storm sewer inspection, cleaning, rehabilitation, maintenance, and emergency response services.
- Build and strengthen relationships with municipalities, counties, utilities, public works departments, consulting engineers, contractors, manufacturers, distributors, and regulatory agencies.
- Partner with Account Managers to achieve sales objectives and position APS as the preferred infrastructure services provider.
- Monitor bidding opportunities, assist with proposal development, pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and procurement activities.
- Collaborate with Area Managers, Territory Account Managers, and manufacturing partners to promote approved products and secure placement on Approved Product Lists (APLs).
- Research market trends, competitor activity, customer needs, and emerging opportunities to support strategic planning.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, association meetings, trade shows, and client events.
- Maintain accurate customer and opportunity information using CRM systems.
- Gather customer feedback to improve service delivery and strengthen client satisfaction.
- Support a collaborative, results-oriented culture while managing multiple priorities and projects.
- Stay informed on local, state, and federal regulations affecting sanitary sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).
- Proven success in business development, sales, or strategic account management.
- Experience working with municipalities, utilities, consulting engineers, contractors, or public infrastructure organizations.
- Working knowledge of sanitary sewer and stormwater systems.
- Understanding of public-sector procurement, bidding processes, and contract delivery methods.
- Strong relationship-building, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Experience using CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and sales reporting tools.
- Ability to analyze market trends and develop long-term growth strategies.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Travel Requirements
This position requires extensive travel (up to 80%), including visits to customers, project sites, industry events, and business partners. Overnight travel and occasional weekend work may be required.
Physical Requirements
- This position includes a combination of office and field work. Candidates must be able to:
- Lift up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.
- Walk active job sites and uneven terrain.
- Occasionally climb, bend, kneel, crouch, or work in confined spaces.
- Operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
