Business Development Manager

About the role
The Business Development Manager will accelerate sales and growth in Arizona by developing and executing strategies to attract new clients through networking, cold-calling, and other outreach methods. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams (marketing, product development, customer support) to align efforts, improve offerings, and support key accounts.
Responsibilities
- Identify and analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to inform strategy.
- Develop and execute strategies to attract new clients through networking, cold calling, and other outreach methods.
- Collaborate with marketing to create literature supporting vertical markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients and prospects to foster long-term partnerships.
- Prepare and present tailored proposals and pitches to potential clients, showcasing the company’s products or services.
- Negotiate contracts and pricing with clients to meet margin requirements while ensuring mutual satisfaction.
- Monitor sales metrics and performance, providing regular reports and insights to management using the ERP system and other reporting methods.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (marketing, product development, customer support) to align efforts and improve offerings.
- Support and service key accounts.
- Mentor and support team members.
- Adhere to and support all safety policies and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of experience in technical sales/service in the industrial water treatment or specialty chemicals industry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent negotiation skills with expertise in closing deals.
- Strong analytical thinking ability.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to learn internal business systems.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and exhibit leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision; effectively plan, organize, and execute activities.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to abide by company standards for operating a motor vehicle.
- Ability to physically provide service at customer facilities within a wide range of environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel as needed (up to 20% overnight travel required).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Previous experience in a business development or related role.
- Six (6) plus years of experience in technical sales/service in the industrial water treatment or specialty chemicals industry.
- Current Certified Water Technologist (CWT) certificate.
