Job Summary
The Business Developer (BD) works to improve BrightView’s market position and achieve profitable financial growth. This role helps to achieve long‑term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, negotiates and closes business deals, and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. The Business Developer manages the sales pipeline from prospecting to closing and is responsible for full‑cycle landscape and, depending on region, snow sales. The Business Developer collaborates with partners including operations, finance, marketing, and more to manage responses to bids in an effort to meet sales targets.
Responsibilities
- Work with prospective customers to discover their “points of pain” and develop solutions.
- Accurately forecast sales deliverables and KPIs; achieve sales goals while working independently.
- Perform sales prospecting using consultative techniques to build long‑standing business relationships, including marketing and pricing.
- Prepare and conduct heavy phone prospecting, sales presentations, virtual demonstrations, and handle contract negotiations with minimal supervision.
- Identify customer needs and utilize solution‑based selling techniques to fully demonstrate the value of BrightView services.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with prospects and existing clients.
- Build and maintain trust‑based professional relationships with key decision makers.
- Plan daily activity benchmarks and close business.
- Log activity consistently and reliably in CRM (Salesforce).
- Operate in a fast‑paced environment with a high sense of urgency.
- Communicate proactively with all decision makers and influencers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Extensive face‑to‑face (B2B) selling experience at the mid‑to‑senior level (3‑5 years).
- Experience managing multiple projects and multitasking across a large territory.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and a CRM or SFA tool.
- Proven track record of sales goal attainment and pipeline management.
- Highly competitive, positive, and results‑driven attitude.
- Excellent presentation, oral, and written communication skills for client‑centric, solution/value‑based proposals.
- Working experience with social media.
- Local knowledge and contacts in one or more market segments (preferred).
- Self‑motivated and self‑directed.
- Experience in the service industry with commercial contract sales (desirable).
Physical Demands/Requirements
- Constant operation of a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, cell phone, and sales programs/tools.
- Combination of mobile and sedentary work; ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- Customarily spends more than half of the time away from BrightView’s offices selling and obtaining orders or contracts.
- Ability to travel by car, train, and plane.
- Must be able to traverse uneven ground and walk on job sites with clients and branch teams for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Must maintain required medications for known allergic reactions at all times.
Work Environment
