Business Data Analyst - Full-Time
About the Role
The Business Data Analyst is a quantitative specialist who understands the business needs of a physician group and how to use data to achieve those needs. They are responsible for organizing and managing large and varied data sets, analyzing healthcare data to optimize business operations, and communicating findings using data visualization and detailed reports. The analyst assists in coordinating financial and operational analysis, including provider compensation and reimbursement, operational key performance indicators, audits, and quality analysis, while establishing effective monitoring processes for the organization.
Serves as a liaison to staff, physicians, practice leadership, and organizational executive leadership related to financial and operational performance. Acts as a training liaison to practice leaders, staff, and physicians focused on performance outcomes and serves as a key stakeholder with Erlanger eChart in reporting optimization to enhance operational and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Compile and organize financial and operational data.
- Gather and organize information for problem-solving.
- Understand data storage and data-sharing methods and effectively utilize resources.
- Analyze data to assist in delivering optimal healthcare management and decision-making.
- Use healthcare data to achieve administrative needs and goals.
- Investigate data to find patterns and trends.
- Convert data into usable, easy-to-understand information.
- Develop reports and presentations.
- Communicate analytic insights to management.
- Calculate and manage physician pay incentives.
- Audit eChart and provider compensation systems to resolve RVU (pay) incentive questions.
- Work closely with Coding, Internal Audit, and Payroll/HR to address provider issues and problem-solve.
- Calculate quality incentives, track call, shift pay, medical directorship pays, and all other forms of provider compensation.
- Serve as a stakeholder for provider pay incentive-based software system (Simpliphy), including entering provider contracts and validating accuracy.
- Process provider base salary and FTE changes.
- Perform comprehensive analyses related to physician compensation and physician productivity, including monthly true-up calculations and salary draw monitoring.
- Audit provider dashboards.
- Develop and implement tools and processes to support physicians and operational leaders in understanding physician compensation and production.
- Complete data analysis of monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for EMG and communicate executive-level and service-line-level data in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with the EMG Operational Performance (Training) Team on KPI areas of opportunity and assist in training clinic staff in system workflows that optimize performance.
- Monitor clinic budgets and communicate variances with applicable clinic leaders.
- Assist in regular communication with physicians regarding their compensation plans.
- Create models, custom reporting packages, and ad hoc reports to meet the information needs of internal stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Ensure adherence to current policies and procedures while emphasizing their significance in workflow.
- Remain flexible and adaptive in business functions, making changes to procedures as necessary.
- Note necessary changes to current policies and procedures and discuss them with Sr. Director of Business Operations and/or VP of Operations, EMG.

- Demonstrate excellent communication skills across all areas of the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support provider contracting and business operations.
- Serve as a liaison on behalf of Business Office leadership to executives and physicians as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, healthcare administration, or a related field. A combination of related education and directly applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with data visualization tools.
- Ability to function independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities and a diverse workload while achieving results in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project), internet research, and database functionality.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, set priorities, and follow through to accomplish results.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Previous physician contracting background.
- Previous healthcare data analytics background.
- Active membership in the American Association of Provider Compensation Professionals.
