About the role
The Business Data Analyst supports a business team's ability to leverage data in support of business monitoring and decision management. They apply a range of analytics and data management techniques to generate accurate data and relevant insights, including the creation of visualizations and dashboards to optimize business decisions and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Engage with business teams to clarify needs and define business requirements for data analysis in support of business optimization and decision-making
- Perform data exploration and analysis to identify and interpret trends and patterns in datasets
- Create dashboards, visualizations, and reports to support business performance monitoring and stakeholders' ability to be data-driven
- Collaborate with the enterprise analytics & information management team to articulate business needs
- Contribute to data inventory and stewardship efforts, including contributions to metadata management, data profiling, data quality remediation, and data cleansing
- Perform research within the business area to determine the appropriate definition and logic for cataloging and modeling data within the analytics ecosystem
- Conduct user acceptance testing to confirm data output and capabilities meet business expectations and align to business processes
- Identify and troubleshoot data discrepancies and inconsistencies, and partner with the enterprise analytics & Information management team to detect issues and automate resolutions
- Maintain high standards and adhere to all enterprise policies and guidelines regarding data security and privacy, data management, data quality, and data governance; regard data as an enterprise asset that is to be protected and used both strategically and appropriately
Requirements
- Typically has the following skills or abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, mathematics, economics, computer science, or related functional area; or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of demonstrated data analytics experience including experience querying and analyzing operational and/or financial data, generating insights and communicating those effectively with colleagues and leaders
- Experience building data queries using SQL in order to join, filter, cleanse, and aggregate data; understanding of how GUI-driven applications apply SQL concepts to do the same
- Experience creating data visualizations/dashboards that highlight trends and patterns with the ability to monitor business performance against KPIs
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts and relational database structures
- Ability to analyze and document business requirements, inclusive of needs and expectations
- Effective written and verbal communication, presentation and analytical skills
- Expert-level skills in Excel
Qualifications
- For roles that are remote (i.e., Work From Home (WFM)) or hybrid (i.e., partial onsite at a VSP location and WFM), must demonstrate a high level of engagement in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings to support effective communication and team alignment
