About the role

Provides comprehensive business consulting services to small business owners on a wide range of topics. Supports clients throughout the Gulf Coast region of Texas at the regional office, sub-center locations or through on-site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes business strengths and weaknesses and develops strategies for improvement.
  • Assesses client's management and technical education needs and recommends appropriate training classes.
  • Develops and updates specialized training classes and materials for individual clients or groups; may conduct training seminars or presentations.
  • Participates in public relations activities; makes speeches and presentations; serves on various committees, etc.
  • Remains informed on changes in laws and regulations applicable to area of specialization.
  • May assist the director with a variety of administrative duties and responsibilities.
  • May provide specialized support in one of the following areas: obtaining contracts with federal, state and local governments; enhancing product commercialization and technology; solicitation of financial support; entering or expanding into international trade.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Experience in areas such as budgeting, financial analysis, marketing research, business plan development, capital access, and other business related areas.
  • Engage and help build relationships with stakeholders including the SBA and its resource partners, lenders, Chambers of Commerce, and other community partners.
  • Professional experience may include a combination of small business consulting, banking and/or finance, and small business ownership.
  • MBA or Master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
  • Frequent travel with the use of a personal vehicle is required.

Qualifications

The position will be located and report to the Houston Center SBDC located in the Galleria area. This position is responsible for providing professional business advising services to pre-venture, early stage and growing companies.

Benefits

The SBDC program is funded through a cooperative agreement with the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the State of Texas. The continuation of all SBDC positions are contingent on the continuation of funding from the SBA and the State of Texas at current levels.

Pay

$56,800 - $64,600

Schedule

Out of town travel may be required periodically.
