Business Continuity Management (BCM) Advisor
Responsibilities
Provides subject matter expertise and works directly with Banking CM, LLC business units regarding all requirements in the Enterprise Business Continuity Risk Management (EBCRM) Standard. Specifically, new or existing business impact analysis (BIA), business continuity planning, and exercises.
Completes Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to identify all requirements to understand the impact of process and key dependency failures.
Develops a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and documents recovery strategies and workarounds.
Conducts BCM exercises to validate planning assumptions and test controls (including work area recovery, contact exercises and simulations as required).
Retains responsibility to ensure that all approvals are obtained. Where applicable, escalates roadblocks in a timely fashion.
Identifies Banking CM, LLC Business Unit recovery time and point objective gaps, challenges business requirements where appropriate, and assists in developing workarounds.
Collaborates with the Business Unit BCM Coordinator, BCM Central Team and IT Risk to identify, track, and approve remediation decisions on Business Unit RTO and RPO gaps.
Works with the Banking CM, LLC Third-Party Risk Team to review exit strategies and document manual workarounds and / or alternate methods of processing for loss of critical suppliers.
Manages and supports work area recovery sites with BCM Central Team and where appropriate, with BCM Coordinators in banking CM, LLC Business Units.
Remediates known gaps, issues, risk acceptances, and action plans to conclusion and escalates systemic or material gaps through issue management to Senior Manager, Business Continuity Risk.
Contributes to the monitoring and risk reporting processes for banking CM, LLC Business Units, where applicable.
Supports the delivery of training to banking CM, LLC Business Units, promoting understanding of key components and core BCRM artifacts and activities (e.g., BIA, Threat Risk Assessment, BCP Exercising), and their respective roles and responsibilities (e.g., activating the BCP, strategies addressing loss of key employees, interdependencies, disruption impacts).
Must-Have Skills
- Strong, demonstrated BCM experience (Primary qualification)—ideally those who have developed or managed Business Impact Analyses, Business Continuity Plans, or led recovery and continuity initiatives.
- Experience in implementing business continuity management practices in the financial services industry.
- Strong understanding of Business Continuity Management an enterprise level.
- Understanding of the high-level processes to support the Business Unit to manage and mitigate business continuity risk.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and leading practices regarding Business Continuity Management.
- Execution of policies and procedures and proficiency in business continuity risk management methodologies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus.
- Strong communications skills with Business Units.
- Experience in identifying and implementing appropriate controls for effective risk mitigation.
