About the Role

This position combines underwriting and portfolio management responsibilities for commercial loan requests up to TCL $15MM. The role requires sound credit judgment, adherence to credit policy, financial analysis, risk evaluation, and proper loan structuring. The Underwriter/Portfolio Manager will independently interact with Senior Management, Sales Teams, Credit Officers, and customers to resolve risk-related issues and ensure strong portfolio performance.

Responsibilities

  • Underwriting:
    • Review and underwrite loan requests under Commercial Credit Policy, ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
    • Evaluate loan structures with Relationship Managers to meet client needs while maintaining the Bank’s credit risk profiles.
    • Apply credit skills, product knowledge, and industry analysis to assess and manage credit risk effectively.
    • Demonstrate expertise in loan terms, structures, conditions, and documentation, including complex credits with varied organizational, covenant, and collateral structures.
    • Adhere to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and production requirements.
    • Propose alternative financing or counter offers when original requests cannot be accommodated.
  • Portfolio Management:
    • Manage relationships with TCL between $1MM - $15MM, focusing on larger, more complex relationships.
    • Ensure overall portfolio performance and asset quality through ongoing maintenance and risk assessment.
    • Develop strategies to resolve issues that could increase risk or create loss for the Bank.
    • Review financials and recommend approval for annual reviews, renewals, or modifications within delegated lending authority.
    • Test covenants, recognize events of default, and provide actionable recommendations.
    • Maintain high-quality credit file documentation in a paperless environment.
    • Track and monitor financial statement requirements and review Borrowing Base certificates.
    • Adhere to regulatory compliance requirements and SLAs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial lending and portfolio management with demonstrated technical competency.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in financial analysis, credit structuring, credit policy application, and risk administration.
  • High level of credit and documentation experience, including proposing and negotiating credit and covenant structures.
  • Practical and conceptual knowledge of credit and risk analysis.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required).
  • Master’s Degree (preferred).

Schedule

  • Hours per Week: 40.
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 4 days in the office.
