Business Banking SBA Credit Risk Officer, Vice President
About the role
As a Lead Credit Officer Vice President in Business Banking Risk, you lead credit oversight and decisioning for new and existing extensions of credit within the Business Banking line of business. You evaluate complex credit opportunities end-to-end—from due diligence and financial analysis through structuring, negotiation, and final decision—while proactively identifying, escalating, and helping mitigate credit risk issues. You also support senior risk discussions by translating portfolio data into clear insights and recommendations, and partner cross-functionally to strengthen credit strategy, controls, and (as applicable) model governance.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes and decisions credit requests.
- Prepares, reviews, and challenges quantitative and qualitative credit analysis while also responsible for business analysis, gathering requirements, and writing business and technical stories for consumption by management.
- Applies broad knowledge of key collection strategies (e.g., competitor activities, market conditions, financial metrics, and regulatory environment) to perform analysis and present findings to senior management for decision making.
- Provides input and guidance to the structure and terms of the relevant credit products extended to issuers/clients.
- Manages and analyzes large amounts of data and information pertaining to credit risk exposures.
- Identifies, analyzes, and escalates credit risk issues to the respective business areas.
- Performs in-depth credit analysis of potential opportunities and existing credit relationships across the business spectrum.
- May collaborate with the model group to prepare model documentation, provide credible challenge, and obtain usage approvals.
- Provides input into deep dives and prepares and delivers presentations for various senior Risk forums to provide updates on the Credit portfolio and support risk discussions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Completion of advanced courses in finance, accounting, and credit.
- 8+ years' experience requiring business banking/commercial knowledge and credit judgement.
- Ability to formulate and articulate objective views based on professional analysis.
- Strong knowledge of credit policies, loan documentation, bankruptcy, and related legal issues.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, as well as analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated PC aptitude.
- Works effectively in a team environment, while assuming individual responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
- Business Banking/Commercial portfolio banking experience.
- Small Business Association credit/operations banking experience.
- A master's degree is preferred.
