About the role
The Applications Platform Expert (Strata) is a senior individual-contributor role providing deep technical mastery, cross-team solutioning, operational solution impacts and informal leadership within the Applications organization. This role has expertise across a broad healthcare delivery domain, with deeper experience in 1–2 functional technical application areas. The Platform Expert operates as a trusted technical authority, a mentor, and a contributor to team and departmental roadmaps, while explicitly deferring people-management, task assignment, and performance-evaluation authority to formal management and project leadership.
Responsibilities
- Platform Administration & Optimization: Ensure system configurations, upgrades, module implementations, and integrations are thoroughly tested, validated, and aligned with organizational financial and operational strategies.
- Testing & Release Management: Lead system testing, defect management, and user acceptance testing (UAT) processes.
- Workflow Automation: Design and implement automated workflows to streamline business processes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with finance leaders, application analysts, operational stakeholders, and vendor partners to deliver robust platform performance, accurate reporting, and seamless end-user workflows.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Maintain adherence to data governance policies and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Solutioning & Tool Evaluation: Operate at high-level solution shaping (options, tradeoffs, rough feasibility) and deep technical design once work is initiated. Evaluate build-vs-buy and native-platform-vs-purpose-built tradeoffs on technical merits. Maintain working fluency across adjacent IT domains (integration, infrastructure, security, data) sufficient to identify who else needs to be involved in a solution.
- Mentoring & Informal Leadership: Elevate other analysts’ capability through coaching on approach and technique without owning or evaluating their performance. Model the standard for quality of build, documentation, and judgment.
- Direction-Giving on Projects: Define or co-define the technical approach and build strategy for projects on which they serve as technical expert. Advise on proposed approaches from other analysts and serve as peer reviewer on build, configuration, and design.
- Depth & Breadth of Expertise: Maintain implementation-level, hands-on fluency in one to two defined domains of true mastery. Maintain working fluency across adjacent systems and integration points connected to their core depth area.
- Documentation & Staying Current: Document build decisions and their rationale so institutional reasoning survives staff turnover. Keep documentation current as systems evolve. Maintain awareness of industry trends, major vendors, and shifts in the vendor landscape within their assigned domain.
- Roadmap Contribution: Provide technical input to managers developing domain or team roadmaps, grounded in vendor release schedules, upcoming features, and emerging trends. Surface developments that should factor into prioritization decisions.
- AI and AI Tools: Use AI tools actively in own work (build, testing, documentation, troubleshooting) and model effective, appropriately-verified use for others. Evaluate AI-powered tools and solutions as part of technical solutioning, including assessing real capability and fit against actual workflow and data. Consider AI-specific risk dimensions and feed AI-specific technology awareness into roadmap contribution.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Information Systems, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Health Management, or related) is required.
- 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare applications/IT, including demonstrated hands-on build and configuration experience in one or more core systems (Epic, Workday, Sectra, or other related application).
- Demonstrated track record of resolving complex, escalated problems that others have been unable to close, with measurable delivery outcomes.
- Experience partnering across multiple IT teams or portfolio verticals on solution design, without formal authority over those teams.
- Experience mentoring or informally coaching less experienced staff, without formal people-management responsibility.
Qualifications
- Implementation-level, current fluency in one to two defined technical domains, with working fluency across adjacent, connected systems.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate and recommend technical solutions and design configuration (including build-vs-buy and platform-native-vs-purpose-built tradeoffs) based on solution merit rather than default.
- Strong coaching and communication skills, with the judgment to influence without formal authority.
- Strong documentation discipline and habits that support knowledge transfer and incorporation into AI tools.
- Working knowledge of AI-enabled tools relevant to their domain, including the ability to evaluate them critically for real-world fit.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing, configuring, or supporting enterprise software platforms (e.g., Strata Decision Technology).
- Expertise in system testing, defect management, and user acceptance testing (UAT) processes.
- Proven track record of collaborating with finance, IT, and operational teams to streamline business workflows.
- Experience working within healthcare finance or clinical enterprise environments preferred.
- Proficiency with platform management and tracking tools like ServiceNow, Jira, or Azure DevOps.
- Strong understanding of healthcare financial concepts, cost accounting, budgeting, or decision support.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Strata Certifications, PMP, Agile/Scrum, or Healthcare Financial Management certifications).
