About the role

The 10,000 Small Businesses Program seeks to help entrepreneurs build stronger businesses and create lasting economic impact. As a Business Advisor, you will serve as a trusted advisor to small business owners, guiding them through strategic growth plans and connecting them with valuable resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one coaching and business advising to program participants, helping them develop and refine strategic Growth Plans.
  • Build strong relationships with entrepreneurs throughout the program and facilitate their transition to long-term business support resources.
  • Support participant recruitment by assisting with application reviews and admissions.
  • Develop participant profiles and identify individual business needs to customize advising strategies.
  • Plan and manage advising schedules to ensure participants receive timely guidance and support.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly planning sessions focused on business growth, accountability, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with faculty by supporting classroom instruction, coordinating group activities, and enhancing participant engagement.
  • Attend all program modules, clinics, workshops, and special events to reinforce participant learning.
  • Connect participants with local business support organizations, mentors, and capital resources.
  • Absorb and analyze key business metrics to measure growth and improve performance.
  • Foster strong partnerships within the entrepreneurial ecosystem to enhance program outcomes and community engagement.
  • Participate in professional development and training focused on business advising, peer learning, and entrepreneurship.

Requirements

  • One of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Entrepreneurship, Sales, or a closely related field and seven (7) years of successful experience providing business advising to small business clients;
    • Master's degree in Business, Entrepreneurship, Sales, or a closely related field and three (3) years of successful experience providing business advising to small business clients.

  • Experience advising entrepreneurs and small business owners through various stages of business growth.
  • Ability to assess business operations, identify opportunities, and develop practical growth strategies.
  • Knowledge of entrepreneurship, business planning, financial metrics, and business development practices.
  • Strong understanding of performance measurement, data analysis, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, community partners, and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Experience connecting businesses with community resources, technical assistance providers, and capital opportunities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism, and commitment to participant success.
  • Ability to effectively support adult learners in both classroom and one-on-one coaching environments.
  • Commitment to fostering economic growth, job creation, and revenue generation for small businesses.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as program needs require.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment with students, faculty, staff, community partners, and business owners.
