About the role
Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) has a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy for all employees in accordance with state and federal law. All internal and external applicants will be required to undergo drug testing before employment and will be subject to further drug and/or alcohol testing throughout their employment in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and overhaul RTS buses and fleet vehicles
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance
- Replace and adjust parts; complete necessary test drives
- Operate diagnostic equipment (e.g., Cummins InSite, Allison)
- Perform welding, brazing, cutting torch work, and operate tow truck as needed
- Report safety concerns and equipment issues to supervisor
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Two (2) years in an accredited diesel mechanics program or comparable technical coursework
- OREquivalent, verifiable work experience (two years may substitute for one year of education)
- Excellent Customer Service skills, including but not limited to the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with customers, are a must.
- Must have own tools
- Must obtain NYS CDL Class B permit with passenger & air brake endorsements prior to start; CDL-B license required within 90 days
- Must obtain CDL Class A permit & towing endorsement (may be after hire); CDL-A required within 90 days of permit
- Must pass post-offer physical
- English proficiency required for safety, communication, and use of manuals/instructions
Qualifications
- Must have valid driver’s license

Pay
Starting Pay: $33.17 per hour
Top Rate Within 3 Years: $41.48 per hour
Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 11:00 pm-7:30 am, Saturday & Sunday, 5:00 pm-2:00 am (Thursday and Friday off)
