Bus Operator, Victory (2200)

About the role

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) seeks candidates for the Bus Operator position at the Victory Delco Bus Depot. This role involves driving vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules, ensuring passenger safety.

Responsibilities

• Drive vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules, complying with traffic regulations while ensuring passenger safety.
• Work a guaranteed forty (40) hours a week, only guaranteed if physically working.
• Follow all safety procedures for vehicle operation.
• Stop vehicles at assigned areas so that passengers can board and unload.
• Perform pre-trip inspection of vehicles.
• Audibly announce stops to passengers.
• Assist passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off bus.
• Answer general questions about bus schedules or routes.
• Report delays, passenger emergencies, and accidents.
• Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
• Prepare accident reports when required.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of three (3) years licensed driving experience.
• No suspensions in the last three (3) years.
• No more than one (1) moving violation in the last three (3) years.
• Valid driver’s license with no driving with a suspended/revoked license over the past five (5) years.
• Ability to successfully complete / pass an interview, employment history verification, criminal background check, and Pre-Employment medical examination including drug & alcohol screening.

Required Skills

• Pass a Basic Math and Reading test through SEPTA's CRC Testing Center.

Pay and Schedule

• Starting Pay: $27.21 hourly
• Max Pay: $38.88 hourly (after completing four (4) years of service)

Schedule

• Required to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, split days off / swings, especially during the first two (2) years of employment.

Additional Information

• Selected candidates must be willing to learn how to operate three (3) modes of transportation: Bus Operator (routes primarily in Delaware County), Light Rail Operator (Media / Sharon Hill Trolley), and the Norristown High Speed Line.
• SEPTA will provide all training for rail certifications on the Media Sharon Hill Trolley and the Norristown High Speed Line.
• Rail certifications must be maintained through an annual recertification class.
