Description: The Bus Operations Training Supervisor oversees daily delivery, coordination, and quality control of bus operator training programs, including new hire instruction, refresher training, remedial training, behind-the-wheel coaching, route familiarization, CDL skills development, and recertification activities. Reporting to the Bus Operations Training Manager, this role is responsible for helping ensure training is delivered consistently, safely, and in alignment with agency rules, procedures, service expectations, and applicable regulatory requirements. This position supervises bus instructional staff, monitors trainee progress and instructional quality, supports qualification and documentation processes, and works closely with Bus Operations, Safety, and other internal partners to maintain operator readiness and training program effectiveness. The Bus Operations Training Supervisor helps translate curriculum and program expectations into consistent day-to-day training delivery and timely coaching, evaluation, and follow-up. Daily Bus Training Delivery and Supervision Supervise daily delivery of bus operator training activities, including classroom, range, behind-the-wheel, route familiarization, and other assigned instructional formats. Direct the work of Bus Operations Instructional Specialists and help ensure training schedules, assignments, and delivery methods are aligned with program needs. Monitor training sessions and instructional activities to support consistency, professionalism, and adherence to approved lesson plans and training standards. Provide day-to-day coaching, direction, and performance feedback to instructional staff. Trainee Evaluation and Qualification Support Conduct or oversee student evaluations, driving performance checks, skills reviews, and other assessments used in qualification, recertification, and retraining processes. Monitor trainee attendance, progress, safety performance, professionalism, and readiness and intervene or escalate concerns as appropriate. Help ensure consistent use of lesson plans, OJT checklists, evaluation forms, and testing methods across bus training activities. Support identification of trainee learning needs and provide or coordinate remediation as needed. Curriculum, Standards, and Program Consistency The following duties are standard for this position. Curriculum, Standards, and Program Consistency Help ensure training content is delivered in accordance with agency policies, operating rules, customer service expectations, ADA-related requirements, and safety standards. Support updates to lesson plans, training materials, procedures, checklists, and evaluation tools based on operational needs and program feedback. Reinforce consistency in instructional methods, expectations, and documentation practices across the bus training team. Support implementation of training technology, simulation tools, LMS tools, and other instructional resources as assigned. Records, Compliance, and Documentation Ensure training records, certification files, CDL-related documentation, checklists, and other required training records are completed accurately and maintained appropriately. Support documentation practices that promote qualification traceability, audit readiness, and internal compliance. Help monitor training activities for alignment with applicable regulatory, agency, and program requirements. Review documentation for completeness and follow up on missing or inconsistent information. Operational Coordination and Safety Support Coordinate with Bus Operations, Dispatch, Road Supervision, Safety, and other internal stakeholders regarding trainee readiness, service needs, corrective training, and operational updates. Support incident-driven retraining, emergency operations training, and reinforcement of safe operating practices. Help ensure training reflects current operational realities, route conditions, service expectations, and safety priorities. Support the CATS safety culture by reinforcing safe training practices and reporting safety concerns through established agency processes. Supervision Given To: Bus Operations Instructional Specialist Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in bus operations, bus operator training, transportation instruction, or a related function; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience delivering or supporting bus operator training, coaching, evaluation, or qualification activities in a safety-sensitive environment. Experience leading, directing, or coordinating the work of instructional staff, operators, or other frontline personnel. Experience with CDL-related training, driving performance evaluation, or operator skills development. Experience maintaining training records, qualification documentation, or similar operational records. Preferred Qualifications Experience in public transit bus operations training, operator development, or remedial and refresher training. Experience supervising instructional staff or leading day-to-day training delivery in a structured training environment. Experience with LMS tools, simulation systems, CDL documentation, or audit-ready training records.
