Responsibilities
- Perform morning inspection of buses operating the daily schedule.
- Maintain all buses, vehicles, and equipment in good mechanical condition.
- Conduct preventive or corrective maintenance on all Steamship Authority vehicles and related equipment as directed by the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on all fleet vehicles, buses, and trailers.
- Adjust, diagnose, and repair problems with air systems, including broken or malfunctioning air valves in the braking system.
- Run computer diagnostic tests for gas and diesel engines and vehicle systems, interpret results, and provide suitable solutions.
- Replace tires, adjust and replace brakes, replace front-end parts, and complete front-end alignments.
- Complete oil changes, repair and service bus auxiliary systems, replace lights, and repair passenger entry doors and luggage compartment doors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Driver’s license; commercial Class A or B preferred.
- Experienced gas or diesel mechanic; experience with electric buses preferred.
- Experienced brake systems technician with ability to work on air systems.
- Knowledge of Cummins, International, and Caterpillar engines and accessories (water pumps, alternators, accessory belts, radiators).
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs. and work in varying conditions.
Pay
$40.80 per hour (starting rate).
