Requirements / Qualifications
- Must pass background check
- Must have good driving record
- Must be at least 21 years of age to apply
- Class B commercial learner permit will need to be obtained (Obtained at DMV) to complete behind the wheel training
- Medical certificate will need to be completed to complete behind the wheel training
- All candidates offered a position will need to submit the following documents prior to hire:
- TB clearance (dated within 6 months)
- Fingerprint Clearance
- Pass District Test
- DMV Printout (Within the last 6 months)
- Letter(s) of Recommendation (Two (2) Letters dated within the last 12 months signed)
- Proof of HS Graduation (Proof of HS Graduation or Equivalent if Available (not required))

Program Details
- It is understood that the duration of this Trainee position will be the mandatory forty (40) hours required by law. However, at the discretion of the Director of Transportation that duration may be lengthened on the ability of the trainee to qualify for and obtain the appropriate license(s).
- The pay for this position is 19/A on the Classified Salary Schedule, except for bargaining unit members receiving this training who remain at their regular rate of pay.
- The hours/days of assigned training shall be scheduled by the Director of Transportation or in the Director's absence, a management designee.
- The hire date to the classification of Bus Driver, for purposes of determining bus driver seniority, shall be the first day of licensed, paid service as a CVUSD bargaining unit Bus Driver. Trainee hours do not count toward bus driver seniority.
- It is understood that the district may solicit applicants for a Trainee position and pay them the appropriate salary as listed above without their being any available permanent position. Said Trainee may be used as a substitute bus driver and shall be afforded preferential hiring over outside candidates for any vacant bargaining unit Bus Driver positions when such vacancies exist.
- In the event a licensed bargaining unit member serves out of class as a Bus Driver, the unit member shall receive out of class pay as a Driver.
Pay & Schedule
- Salary: Single Rate $17.90 Per Hour (Classified Salary Schedule Step 19A)
- Length of Work Year: 40-60 hours total (3.5 hours per day)
