Bus Driver Supervisor
Qualifications
Required:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- One (1) year of experience in driving at the bus driver or floater level.
- Certification in emergency first aid, CPR, and the use of an automated external defibrillator [22.1-178].
- A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles that meets specific criteria.
- A Class B commercial motor vehicle, as defined by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, with P and S (passenger and school bus) endorsements and air brakes.
- A minimum age requirement of 21 years.
- Completion of FCPS bus driver training program.
- A satisfactory pre-employment physical examination and a completed School Bus Driver's Physician Certificate (form EB.001).
- Completion of the Virginia Board of Education training program on autism spectrum disorders [8VAC20-70-350].
- A pre-employment school bus driver moral character statement (form EB.003) as prescribed by the Virginia Board of Education [22.1-178].
- Completion of the Department of Education mandated Drug and Alcohol Suspicion Training for Supervisors [49 CRF 382.603] within one year of employment.
- Completion of the "New Director/Supervisor" class conducted by the Virginia Department of Education [8VAC20-70-350] within one year of employment.
Major Duties/Essential Functions
Supervises all bus drivers and transportation attendants, as well as oversees all bus operation tasks within a team.
Drives a bus as required by operational necessity.
Assists with driving any route within the assigned team, distributes and collects time and attendance forms, end-of-year driver count of students, and other statistical and survey reports, such as gas and oil consumption and mileage.
Distributes new and revised route descriptions and provides guidance and assistance to bus drivers in their use.
Serves as a communications link between bus drivers and supervisors.
Assists with resolving issues related to the notification of field trip opportunities, delivering supplies, and explaining basic maintenance and operating procedures to substitute drivers.
Participates in state and county evaluation process and annual ride-along evaluation of drivers and attendants.
Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job frequently operates outdoors in street environments near moving traffic.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel.
There may be exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises.
This job requires lifting up to 25 lbs., and occasional lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.
