Beaumont Unified School District is located in the scenic San Gorgonio Pass, between Palm Springs and Southern California’s Inland Empire. The district supports the growing communities of Beaumont, Cherry Valley, and portions of Calimesa and Banning, serving over 12,000 students across seven elementary schools, two middle schools, a comprehensive high school, a middle college high school, an alternative school, a home education program, and a large adult education program.

About the role

Under general supervision, the Bus Driver II operates a school bus on various field trips, transporting school children, teachers, and adults. This role includes assisting with the loading and unloading of passengers, operating a wheelchair lift, and securing wheelchairs as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a school bus safely and efficiently on designated routes and field trips.
  • Operate a wheelchair lift for entry and exit from the bus; secure wheelchairs and assist in loading/unloading handicapped children.
  • Adhere to school bus transportation procedures and safe driving practices.
  • Comply with State laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to school bus operations and pupil transportation.
  • Keep clear and accurate records and reports related to bus operations.
  • Learn designated bus routes, including stops and traffic hazards.
  • Motivate others toward proper driving and safety standards.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, and the community.
  • Work independently without direct supervision.
  • Perform night driving and navigate varied terrains, including mountains and urban areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Valid and current CHP Special School Bus Driver Certificate (acceptable restrictions: 1 and 6; if 6 is restricted, a valid and current First Aid card is required).
  • Valid and up-to-date Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
  • One year of bus driving experience.
  • Ability to navigate varied terrains, including mountains and urban areas.
  • Night driving experience.
  • Knowledge of first aid practices.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $25.08 – $34.33. A maximum of three years of experience credit may be granted for experience outside Beaumont USD, with a maximum starting salary of $28.22 per hour for external hires. Pay frequency is monthly over 12 months.

Schedule

  • 215 work days per year (200 work days + 15 holidays).
  • Part-time, split shift: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (6.5 hours per day).
