About the role

The Bus Driver is responsible for ensuring the children are transported safely, promptly, and appropriately. They supervise children on the bus and support the Floater/Bus position. They also maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the building, performing routine maintenance activities and notifying supervisors of needed repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains bus routes in coordination with Family Service Workers for review and approval by Center Managers.
  • Runs fixed routes as outlined; does not make unauthorized changes to routes or stops.
  • Responsible for the general maintenance of the bus and keeping it in working order.
  • Maintains and completes daily logs such as attendance, mileage, and maintenance logs.
  • Provides training to Bus Monitors throughout the year as needed.
  • Participates in safety drills and evacuation plans, providing orientation to staff, parents, and children.
  • Immediately reports incidents, accidents, or unusual situations that could place a child at risk.
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting suspected mechanical issues.
  • Performs daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning, and disinfecting classrooms, sinks, restrooms, and common areas.
  • Disposes of garbage and disinfects wastebaskets or garbage cans daily.
  • Ensures safety and cleanliness of the premises, including maintaining outside equipment, replacing light bulbs, and conducting lawn maintenance.
  • Strips, waxes, polishes floors and shampoos carpets according to the center's schedule.
  • Keeps sidewalks, parking lots, and playground areas safe from hazards.
  • Monitors and locks all doors and windows before closing the center.
  • Reports any unsafe equipment to the Safety Committee Chairperson and/or Center Manager.
  • Prepares and maintains inventories of janitorial supplies, reporting and requesting purchases to the Center Manager.
  • Assists the head cook and/or cook in storing and dating groceries.
  • Shows interest in professional growth by attending staff meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars.
  • Maintains confidentiality of program and client-related information at all times.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 25 years old.
  • Valid Washington State Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B or C with passenger (P1) (P2), and school bus (S) endorsements.
  • Medical Examiners Certificate.
  • Acceptable driving history.
  • Proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel to perform job duties and responsibilities.
  • Pass initial and periodic criminal and background checks.
  • Pass initial and periodic Department of Early Learning (DEL) background checks.
  • Pass initial and periodic employee health clearances within 45 days of employment.
  • Current Food Handler card within 30 days of employment.
  • Current First Aid / CPR cards within 30 days of employment.
  • Subject to initial and periodic TB screens.
  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV/AIDS) training within 30 days of employment.
  • Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of employment.
  • Subject to random drug screens.
  • Signs a Confidentiality Agreement.
  • Signed a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement annually.

  • Knowledge and ability to read, write, and communicate in English and/or Spanish.
  • Excellent in following Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in bus safety and risk management.
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly and efficiently.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to gather and write data for reports and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
  • Excellence in building maintenance.
