Performance Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and utilization of State Laws for School Bus Drivers
  • Knowledge of Commercial Drivers Licensing laws and regulations
  • Knowledgeable of and reports mechanical problems immediately
  • Knowledgeable of District discipline procedure and appropriate and acceptable behavior for riders
  • Utilizes safety knowledge to maintain utmost care of students
  • Maintains control of students through positive student management techniques
  • Provides appropriate information for student referral and/or discipline problems
  • Provides positive input during safety meeting
  • Maintains composure under stressful situations
  • Attends assigned safety meetings and/or workshops
  • Reports all accidents and/or near accidents to supervisor
  • Reports potentially hazardous situations
  • Willingness to work with supervisor and drivers

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at contract time
  • Meets all state licensing requirements
  • Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Maintains a valid Class B license with both passenger and student endorsement
  • Succeeds in completing DOT physical annually
  • Successfully passes initial and random drug screening
  • Submits and passes background check

Requirements

  • Reports to: Director of Transportation
  • Completes all reports (pre-trip inspection, mileage, student count, discipline, accident and others as needed)
  • Performs and records daily pre-trip inspection of bus and vehicular damage
  • Maintains interior cleanliness of bus by sweeping and or mopping daily
  • Knowledgeable of and reports mechanical problems immediately
  • Knowledgeable of all emergency procedures including two school bus evacuation drills yearly
  • Utilizes safety knowledge to maintain utmost care of students
  • Follows route directions and informs supervisor of changes immediately
  • Allows students to load and unload at authorized stops
  • Wears seat belt whenever bus is in motion
  • Presents on the bus whenever there are students in the vehicle
  • Provides appropriate information for student referral and/or discipline problems
  • Provides positive input during safety meeting
  • Maintains composure under stressful situations
  • Attends assigned safety meetings and/or workshops
  • Reports all accidents and/or near accidents to supervisor
  • Reports potentially hazardous situations
  • Willingness to work with supervisor and drivers

Benefits

  • Salary and work year to be established by the School Board
  • Evaluation of performance will be conducted annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support staff personnel.
  • Bus drivers may be suspended from duty at any time by the Superintendent or designee for inefficiency, breach of rules, insubordination, or other good cause.
  • Final dismissal from service to be made at the discretion of the Board of Education.
