Bus Driver

About the role

This part-time position serves Fountain Valley Elementary School District’s seven elementary and three middle schools, transporting students to and from school and related activities.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and schedules.
• Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with district safety rules.
• Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues.
• Maintain accurate records as required by state and district policies.
• Assist students with special needs as outlined in individual transportation plans when assigned.

Requirements

• Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience in the operation of a motor vehicle.
• Valid California School Bus Drivers Certificate (Restriction #1 only).
• Valid California Class B driver license with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements.
• Valid medical card (DL-51).
• Valid Red Cross First Aid card (required only if Restriction #6 appears on the Special Driver Certificate).

Examination process

• Written test.
• Oral interview.
• Performance test.

Applicants with all required certifications and verified paperwork will be invited to the written exam; dates to be announced via email. All documents must be attached to your application.

Schedule

• Part-time, 30 hours per week.
• Length of work year: 9.6 months.

Pay

• Hourly rate: $26.72 – $32.48 (Range 43, 5 steps).
• Hiring may be made up to step 3 per CSEA contract.
