About the role

As an Apprentice Bus Technician, you will be trained to inspect, diagnose, repair and test equipment and systems on buses from different manufacturers. The work ranges from performing simple tasks, like replacing a part, to solving complex faults often using diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose and record defects to the applicable standard
  • Apply diagnostic principles based on logical, analytical interpretation to solve problems
  • Develop skills in emerging bus and coach technologies and their impact on technician knowledge and skills
  • Understand and adhere to current health and safety requirements and workshop practices
  • Carry out high-quality roadworthiness inspections specific to your trade
  • Gain an understanding of the business operations and your role within it
  • Meet customer expectations for a safe, clean, and reliable service
  • Earn under 18s £818 to £20,108 and above £12.71 in your first year, with pay increasing year-on-year in line with the National Minimum Wage and progress through your course

Requirements

You will need to have GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) at Grade C / Level 4 as a minimum.

Qualifications

The course runs with 5-day training blocks every 6 weeks which take place at our partner’s state-of-the-art workshop in Wolverhampton. The course will give you skills and experience to become a skilled Bus Engineer, including:

  • Inspection, diagnosis, and recording of defects
  • Diagnostics based on logical, analytical interpretation
  • Understanding of emerging bus and coach technologies
  • Health and safety requirements and workshop practices
  • Roadworthiness inspections specific to your trade
  • Business operations and role within it
  • Customer expectations and service delivery

Skills

Problem-solving, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and adapt are essential skills for this role.
