Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
- Show highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
- Maintain vigilance over passengers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and student conduct rules.
- Exercise student management through communication and discipline according to company policy.
- Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to appropriate authorities.
- In case of emergency, assist in the evacuation of passengers.
- Erect that students take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.
- Help the driver keep the vehicle clean and presentable.
- Complete required paperwork and submit it promptly.
- Display professional behavior and promote company goodwill.
- Be punctual and perform duties safely.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; 19 years old for New York School Bus Assistants.
- Must meet physical and medical requirements.
- Must successfully complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
- Must have a high degree of attention to detail and dexterity to safely use various types of restraints.
- Must be able to relate to and work well with children.
- Must demonstrate high professionalism and diplomatic skills when interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and school personnel.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to lift and assist students when necessary.
