Responsibilities

  • Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
  • Show highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisor or manager.
  • Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
  • Maintain safety and student conduct rules during transportation.
  • Document and report any violations or concerns to appropriate authorities.
  • Ensure students take their belongings when leaving the bus.
  • Help the driver keep the vehicle clean and presentable.
  • Complete required paperwork and submit on time.
  • Display professional behavior and promote company goodwill.
  • Report to duty on time and perform tasks safely.
  • Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old; 19 years old in New York for School Bus Assistants.
  • Meet physical and medical requirements.
  • Pass all training and safety meetings to remain qualified.
  • Have a high attention to detail and dexterity.
  • Be able to relate to and work well with children.
  • Show professionalism and diplomacy when interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and school personnel.
  • Communicate effectively and have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to lift and assist students as necessary.

Pay

Compensated weekly, hourly starting rate $18.50. Pay rates and benefits may vary by site, market, contract, and position.
