Bus Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
  • Show highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisor or manager.
  • Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
  • Maintain safety and follow student conduct rules during transportation.
  • Document and report any violations or concerns to appropriate authorities.
  • Ensure students take their belongings when leaving the bus.
  • Help keep the bus clean and presentable.
  • Complete required paperwork and submit on time.
  • Display professional behavior and promote company goodwill.
  • Report to duty on time and perform tasks safely.
  • Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old; 19 years old for New York School Bus Assistants.
  • Meet physical and medical requirements.
  • Pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
  • Have a high attention to detail and dexterity.
  • Be able to relate to and work well with children.
  • Have strong professionalism and diplomatic skills.
  • Communicate effectively and interact with students, colleagues, parents, and school personnel.
  • Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a good driving record.
  • Must have a valid Social Security number.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Pay, Benefits & Schedule

Pay Range: $18.35 per hour
Training: $18.35 per hour
Bonuses: $625/quarter (after 1 year of employment)

Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST): 1 hour for every 30 hours worked (max of 48 hours)
