Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
- Show highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
- Monitor passengers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and student conduct rules.
- Communicate and apply discipline according to company policy in case of violations or misconduct.
- Document and report any incidents or concerns to the appropriate authority.
- Exercise student management during emergencies by assisting with evacuations.
- Ensure students take their belongings with them when leaving the bus.
- Complete required paperwork and submit it promptly.
- Display professional behavior towards colleagues, supervisors, parents, and school personnel.
- Present a neat and professional appearance and arrive on time for shifts.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years old per state law.
- Must meet physical and medical requirements as determined by the company.
- Must successfully complete and pass all required training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings to maintain qualification.
- Must possess a high degree of attention to detail and dexterity to safely operate various restraints and secure wheelchairs.
- Must be able to relate positively to and work effectively with children.
- Must demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy when interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and school district personnel.
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to lift and assist students as necessary.
