Bus Assistant
Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
- Show the highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
- Maintain safety by monitoring passengers and ensuring compliance with regulations and student conduct rules.
- Document and report any violations or concerns to the appropriate authority.
- In the event of an emergency, assist in the evacuation of passengers.
- Absorb students' belongings when they leave the bus.
- Help the bus driver keep the vehicle clean and presentable.
- Complete required paperwork and submit it promptly.
- Behave professionally and promote company goodwill.
- Be punctual and perform all duties safely.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years old per state law.
- Meet physical and medical requirements.
- Successfully complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
- Show attention to detail and possess considerable dexterity to handle various restraints and secure wheelchairs.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to lift and assist students as necessary.
