Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
- Show the highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to a supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints as needed.
- Monitor passengers at all times to ensure compliance with safety regulations and student conduct rules.
- Communicate and apply discipline according to company policy when necessary.
- Document and report any violations or conduct concerns to the appropriate authority.
- Assist the driver in maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the assigned vehicle.
- Complete required paperwork and submit it to the appropriate department in a timely manner.
- Display professional behavior and promote company goodwill in all interactions.
- Report to duty on time and perform all responsibilities safely.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years old per state law.
- Must meet physical and medical requirements.
- Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings to remain qualified.
- Must have a high degree of attention to detail and dexterity to safely use various types of restraints and secure wheelchairs.
- Must be able to relate to and work well with children.
- Must demonstrate high levels of professionalism and diplomacy when interacting with students, fellow employees, parents, and school district personnel.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to lift and assist students when necessary.
