Responsibilities
- Aid students in entering or exiting the bus safely.
- Show highest ethical standards and personal integrity; report any suspicious or inappropriate behavior to supervisor or manager.
- Secure students using seat belts, car seats, or wheelchair restraints, as needed.
- Monitor passengers to ensure compliance with safety regulations and student conduct rules.
- Communicate and apply discipline according to company policy in case of violations or misconduct.
- Document and report any incidents or concerns to appropriate authorities.
- In case of emergency, assist in the evacuation of passengers.
- Absorb students' belongings when they leave the bus.
- Complete required paperwork and submit it promptly.
- Behave professionally and display good moral character at all times.
- Report to work on time and perform duties safely.
- Attend all assigned training, safety meetings, and in-service meetings.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old; for New York School Bus Assistants, must be at least 19 years old.
- Must meet physical and medical requirements.
- Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings.
- Must have a high degree of attention to detail and dexterity to safely use various types of restraints and secure wheelchairs.
- Must be able to relate to and work well with children.
- Must demonstrate high professionalism and diplomacy when interacting with students, colleagues, parents, and school district personnel.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to lift and assist students when necessary.
