Bus Aide

About the role

A staff member responsible for all duties associated with managing students in a safe manner. The goal of this position is to assist with managing students in a safe manner.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Ability to perform all duties of the job.
• Maintain First Aid/CPR certificate.
• Subject to interview process and Board approval for hiring by Transportation management.
• Reports to the Transportation Director.

Responsibilities

• Assist driver with student discipline on the bus and follow established student discipline procedures; be firm, friendly and fair.
• Assist with evacuation drills as directed.
• Follow policies, procedures and rules governing all areas of the transportation department.
• Attend all in‑service training.
• Be neatly dressed and adhere to district dress code.
• Use protective gear as necessary (e.g., gloves and masks).
• Perform other duties related to transporting students as appointed by the driver, including buckling, strapping and securing students, making arrangements with parents as necessary and jointly with the driver, taking students to buildings or the home as applicable.
• Operate two‑way radio using proper language and procedures.
• Work toward a team‑building concept and solve problems together.
• Establish and maintain a high level of public relations by projecting a cheerful, helpful and courteous attitude at all times.
• Attend regular staff and training meetings; mandatory meetings must be attended unless written notice is given in advance with a valid reason.
• Maintain confidentiality, courtesy, cooperation and positive attitude, reliability/punctuality, timeliness in respect to deadlines, honesty, and respectfulness toward others.
