Building Surveyor

Salary £42,839 - £46,142 per annum (Salary Band £40,001 to £50,000). Permanent, full-time role.

About the role

The Building Surveyor plays a critical role in maintaining and upgrading the Council’s housing stock, working across high-value capital projects including major programmes for Housing. Responsibilities include retrofit works, planned maintenance, cyclical maintenance, large responsive maintenance, and asbestos management. The role ensures all projects are appropriately surveyed, specified, scheduled, procured, and contract-managed.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital projects (including Retrofit works) from start to final accounts, managing all aspects of the work.
• Prepare tender documentation, bills of quantities, design specifications, and valuations on contracts.
• Measure works on site and carry out the Principal Designer (PD) role under CDM regulations.
• Prepare claims contracts, schedules of rates, and small estimates for various clients.
• Ensure compliance with retrofit grant requirements, including PAS, Trustmark, Retrofit Designer/Assessor, and Coordinator roles.
• Work independently while collaborating with the broader team as needed.

Requirements

• Good understanding of retrofit grant requirements and compliance standards.
• Proficiency in IT, including MS Office, Outlook, databases, and AutoCAD.
• Experience in a person-centred environment or working with older and vulnerable client groups (preferable but not essential).
