Building Supervisor III
Serves as a building supervisor in a high school, overseeing custodial staff and participating in cleaning, maintenance, operation, and security activities. Manages the custodial training program for assigned staff.
Qualifications
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.
- Two (2) years of experience in public building custodial operations, including one (1) year in a custodial personnel oversight or supervisory role.
- Must successfully complete the FCPS Custodial Certification Course prior to or within one (1) year of appointment.
- May be required to work an evening and/or night shift on a regular or rotating basis.
- Knowledge of custodial methods, equipment, procedures, and cleaning materials.
- Ability to train, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of assigned staff.
- Ability to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare routine reports.
- Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.
- Ability to work cooperatively with employees, students, and the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
- Plans, assigns, supervises, instructs, and assists assigned custodial staff.
- Sets performance level expectations for cleaning buildings, maintaining grounds, using equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Establishes work schedules and ensures employees operate as an effective working unit.
- Assists school-based administrator in determining work schedules and approving leave.
- Counsels employees and resolves informal complaints and grievances through discussion.
- Reports on employees' work hours and performance and initiates disciplinary action as needed.
- Makes daily inspections to ensure prescribed standards are maintained for plant equipment, property, and grounds.
- Requisitions and distributes equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Performs and/or ensures preventive maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs are completed.
- Supervises and participates in maintaining the outside of the building, including removing snow and ice, mowing lawns, maintaining shrubbery, picking up paper and debris, and removing standing water.
- Ensures proper safety and security precautions are observed.
- Assists school and community groups using the building to provide adequate custodial services.
- Transports and empties large trash or recycling receptacles into outdoor units.
- Moves and transports furniture, equipment, boxed textbooks, and other supplies, manually or with mechanical assistance.
- Completes performance evaluations, in conjunction with the plant operations monitor, of lower-graded staff, with final approval by the school-based administrator.
- Assists the plant operations monitor and school-based administrator in developing progressive disciplinary actions.
- Assists the school-based administrator with hiring custodial staff by participating in selection advisory committees and providing technical guidance on custodial operations.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment
This job requires strength, agility, dexterity, and visual acuity. The employee must adhere to all site safety regulations and may be required to regularly stand, sit, walk, bend, climb ladders, and/or kneel. Exposure to extreme heat and cold, outdoor environments, heavy equipment, moving machinery, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noises may occur. The role involves lifting up to 25 lbs., periodically lifting/moving up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lifting/moving up to 100 lbs. alone or with assistance.
Pay
Salary range: $55,342 - $95,754. Biweekly pay frequency. Full-time, 260-day contract.
