Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Report to the assigned school each workday as scheduled.
  • Provide classroom instruction in the absence of the regular teacher using lesson plans provided.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
  • Supervise students throughout the instructional day and during assigned duties.
  • Follow district curriculum, instructional expectations, and school procedures.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and classroom records as required.
  • Collaborate professionally with administrators, teachers, and support staff.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by covering various grade levels and subject areas as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and district information.
  • Uphold all East Cleveland City School District Board policies and administrative procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Ohio Substitute Teaching License or Ohio Educator License.
  • Current BCI/FBI background checks as required by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a classroom.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents, and administrators.

Preferred Qualification

  • Previous classroom teaching or substitute teaching experience.
  • Experience working in an urban school district.
  • Able to build positive relationships with students while maintaining high expectations.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing assignments and instructional needs.

Working Conditions

  • Assigned exclusively to one school building throughout the school year.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise students throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Work is performed in a school environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.
  • Must possess the physical and mental ability to perform essential job functions.

Terms Of Employment

  • 2026-2027 school year.
  • August 2026 - May 2027.

Pay

Salary ECEA Master Agreement.
