About the role

Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities maintenance and plant equipment operations work in schools at Cabin John Middle School in Potomac. The work involves varied building cleaning duties and related facilities and grounds maintenance work. Employees receive on‑the‑job training in the use of cleaning and grounds tools, equipment and supplies to clean interior spaces and maintain grounds. The nature of the work is repetitive, requires sustained physical effort, and includes heavy lifting (minimum 50 lbs.) with exposure to accident, injury hazards and disagreeable elements. Employees assigned to community use of schools must hold the appropriate certificate for checking or operating heating, ventilating and air‑conditioning equipment. They must work Saturdays and Sundays to facilitate ICB use of MCPS facilities, maintain building security during weekend shifts, and report to buildings during inclement weather as emergency personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform building cleaning, facilities maintenance and plant equipment operations.
• Carry out varied cleaning duties and related grounds maintenance work.
• Operate and maintain custodial and grounds care equipment and supplies.
• Monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
• Maintain security of the school building during assigned weekend shifts.
• Report to buildings during inclement weather as emergency personnel.
• Use personal protective equipment and follow safety practices.
• Possess a basic knowledge of emergency response procedures.
• Meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Requirements

• Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to lift and move heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.) and perform manual labor.
• Location subject to change; must provide own transportation to different school locations.
• Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays and one or more shifts during the Monday
