Supervises the work involved in the care and maintenance of the Illini Union, as related to custodial operations.
Responsibilities
- Direct, supervise, evaluate and assist Building Service Workers on assigned shift, ensuring all custodial duties are carried out to Illini Union standards.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate set-ups related to Illini Union to ensure they are completed in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with Building Service Worker duties as needed to ensure adequate personnel coverage for special requests.
- Work with Building Service Management to create schedules covering operational needs, including holidays, vacations, and special events. Confirm holiday schedules are posted at least two weeks before any holiday.
- Verify and approve timesheets in the timekeeping system(s), including entering benefit use. Maintain records of benefit usage and overtime worked for each supervised employee.
- Work with Building Service Management to ensure all Building Service Workers are properly trained in all aspects of the job, including new procedures, products, and/or equipment.
- Complete daily Foreman logs and perform routine inspections in all areas of responsibility to document projects and issues.
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness and work quality on the assigned shift; collaborate with Building Service Management to maintain these standards.
- Enforce safe working habits, including ergonomic risk management, safe operation and handling of materials and equipment. Inspect cleaning equipment for repairs and/or replacement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Perform general physical activities requiring use of hands, arms, legs, and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, stooping, handling, positioning, and moving materials.
- Exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods.
Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Three (3) years (36 months) of experience in building custodial work.
Skills
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of custodial duties, chemicals, and equipment used in maintaining various types of surfaces.
- Knowledge of equipment related to use in public functions and special events.
- Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to use computers, computer systems, and basic computer applications.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Building Service Foreman position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after September 7, 2026.
Pay
The budgeted salary for this position is $58,620.00 per year.
Schedule
The scheduled work hours are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM (Central Time) with Wednesday and Thursday off.
