About the role
The Building Physicist Engineer is responsible for proposing and implementing technical solutions that maximize project profitability and improve product performances, focusing on building physics performance including thermal, acoustics, and performance-based façade designs.
Responsibilities
- Propose and implement technical solutions to maximize project profitability and improve product performances.
- Focus on building physics performance including thermal, acoustics, and performance-based façade designs.
- Propose and implement technical solutions to maximize project profitability and improve product performances.
- Perform advanced 2D and 3D thermal simulations for complex building envelope details and atypical conditions.
- Analyze project-specific interfaces for thermal bridging, condensation risk, and thermal shock.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regional energy codes and sustainability standards (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, local stretch codes).
- Ensure all facade designs meet or exceed regulatory and project-specific performance criteria.
- Confirm the compliance of thermal, acoustic, and performance-based design through tests and/or calculations conducted and documented in a clear manner.
- Review material data sheets and coordinate with glass/component suppliers.
- Provide acoustic assessments of glazing assemblies and overall facade systems, or advise on calculation for acoustics and fire performance when necessary.
- Manage the end-to-end product certification pipeline by performing thermal performance simulations, coordinating with NFRC validation channels, and preparing technical submittal packages to secure approval from the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
- Contribute to continuous improvement by developing internal modeling templates, calculation tools, and scripts to streamline workflow efficiency.
- Attend and supervise performance mock-up sites prior and during testing as needed.
- Coordinate with the Technical Manager and/or Project Manager to ensure that thermal, acoustics, and performance-based engineering aspects are applied to site installation and erection and assist in resolving alternations to any design changes due to "As-Built" conditions.
- Visit sites as needed to ensure that all aspects have been executed correctly.
- Share in the day-to-day responsibility for implementing the affirmative action program which includes, but is not limited to, responding to AA/EEO inquiries/investigations and participating in recruitment efforts.
- Communicate effectively on safety values, which are incorporated into the company’s values. Safety assessments are a priority within the company’s values and you must enforce and promote safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering/Physics
- 3-5+ years’ experience in building physics, thermal modeling, or façade engineering
- NFRC Certified Simulator (preferred)
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Especially Excel)
- Must have working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks/Inventor
- Proficiency in standard thermal/optical software: THERM, WINDOW, and Optics
- Experience with 3D thermal software: Trisco, Bisco, or similar (plus)
