Building Operations Manager – Female On Campus Resident Hall

About the role

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned buildings and providing support for all area-related events. This includes instructing and working with all employees while performing all building operation functions and all event setups that are scheduled in the buildings. Responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, time management, accountability, safety, cleanliness, customer service, and following directions from upper management.

Assigned Location: Helaman Halls On-Campus Housing - Female Resident Hall. During Fall/Winter, you and your team of students will keep bathrooms and other common areas clean for the student residents. During Spring/Summer, we house various summer camps hosted at the University, involving a weekly Saturday cleaning turnaround. Due to the nature of this position being over a female resident hall, we will only accept female applicants.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, training, and job oversight to all employees.
• Manage the cleanliness of assigned buildings by working with ¾-time, part-time employees, and student employees.
• Determine needs and submit work orders for the buildings such as painting, electrical, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, etc., and follow up to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
• Keep in contact with patrons of the buildings to determine customer satisfaction and address any concerns.
• Guide the development of student and non-student employees by working alongside them to teach, train, and mentor.
• Communicate, encourage, and hold accountable all student and non-student employees regarding their job responsibilities.
• Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences to improve job and leadership skills.
• Engage in personal study of administrative and skill development materials.

Requirements

• A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
• Female applicant – due to the nature of this position being over a female resident hall.
• One year of professional experience in building operations or a similar industry (or current BYU Building Operations Manager).
• Physical exam and lift test required.

Physical Requirements

• Perform tasks such as lifting tables, chairs, riser stairs, climbing ladders for cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc., for 6–8 hours per day.
• Closed-toe shoes and gloves are recommended for safety.
• Participate in snow removal as needed. Appropriate cold-weather gear is recommended, including a hat, gloves, boots, layered clothing, and sunscreen.
• Operate equipment such as vacuums, running floor machines, buffers, genie lift, and loaders as required. Eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are recommended.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals. Eye protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are required.

Physical Effort: Moderate – frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.

Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters.

Hazards: Frequent existing or potential hazards.

Qualifications

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 3 years of building care experience.
• 1 year of supervisory experience.

Schedule

8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday-Friday, with some Saturdays during Spring/Summer (April-August).

Pay

Pay Grade: 49

Typical Starting Pay: $22.50 to $29.25/hourly ($47,500 to $61,500 annually). The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
