About the role

Responsible for the project management of all assigned engineering systems construction and alteration projects for Miami University including, but not limited to, mechanical systems and equipment as well as systems and components involved in energy management and building automation systems and other scopes as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Overall project management responsibilities for assigned engineering projects of various sizes and types from initiation through project closeout.
  • Duties include oversight of initial planning, scope of work determination, cost estimate reviews, competitive bidding, contractor negotiations, cost control, work inspections, scheduling, work coordination, move planning and management, project close out, and post occupancy follow up.
  • Project Planning – Meet with departments to determine needs and project feasibility. Scope of Work Determination – Develop an accurate scope of work, to include all systems for a complete scope determination.
  • Project Oversight – Oversight for job costs, including change orders; prepares project status reports, reviews requests for payment by consulting A/E’s and contractors, control payment by valuation of completed work.
  • Work Coordination – Responsible for coordination between various trades, suppliers, and end users to ensure timely and proper completion of project.
  • Project Close Out – Inspection of contractor work to ensure compliance with all project requirements, follow up to be sure contractor completes all final inspection work tasks, and to ensure submission of accurate record drawings and operations and maintenance manuals, conduct post occupancy interviews.
  • Cordination with department representatives and review of documents for compliance with University Standards. Acts as a mechanical / HVAC technical representative to other PMs for assigned projects managed by the Planning Architecture & Engineering Division of PFD.
  • Reviews design drawings and specifications with the engineering associate to ensure that designs meet The University’s standards, and reports major design issues to the project manager.
  • Aids in the development and implementation of Planning Architecture & Engineering Objectives; develops and pursues personal goals and objectives that are in alignment with, and supportive of, Divisional goals.
  • Maintains knowledge of current codes and ensures that all applicable codes are followed on assigned projects. Submits reports as required to comply with requirement of State agencies and other agencies having jurisdiction over inspection.
  • Aids the Director of Planning, Architecture, & Engineering and the Director of Energy Systems in formulating and directing policies and methods to meet total energy management needs and consumption reduction goals.
  • Supports Divisional LEAN continuous improvement efforts, sustainability initiatives, customer service philosophy, and productivity expectations with a focus on: effective and efficient solutions for the University.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with installation or commissioning of building mechanical systems for a licensed contractor;
  • and a minimum of 5 years of experience in project management with an engineering firm or mechanical based contractor, a facility-owner representative and/or military.

  • A bachelor’s degree with major/focus in Mechanical Engineering;
  • and a minimum of 5 years of experience in project management with an engineering firm or mechanical based contractor, a facility-owner representative and/or military.

Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to be a qualified driver under the Universities MVR policy.

Qualifications

  • Sound knowledge and experience with managing project budgets, schedules, and other project management duties.
  • The ability to organize, prioritize, and perform under pressure in both public contact and internal departmental capacity.
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of complex technical and project manager related tasks where frequent independent interpretation and decision is required.
  • Position directly affects the effectiveness of the Physical Facilities Department and the University community.
  • Face-to-face, telephone and written communications with all levels of the University community and a wide spectrum of outside agencies, schools, and vendors.

Pay

Salary will be commensurate with the level of the position, education, and experience. Position Salary Minimum 80,000 Position Salary Maximum 108,000
