Building Mechanic- IL- Campus Facilities- 2nd Shift- Tues-Sat 3pm-11:30 pm
About the role
The Building Mechanic performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. This position reports to the Lead Stationary Engineer. The hours for this position are Tuesday-Saturday from 3 pm to 11:30 pm.
Responsibilities
- Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment.
- Major repairs are performed under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or replaces broken parts.
- Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
- Participates in developing and implementing mechanical maintenance plans to prevent costly equipment breakdowns.
- Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals.
- May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
- Repairs refrigeration equipment.
- Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
- Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
- Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains.
- Maintains building temperatures and adjusts as necessary.
- Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED is required.
- A certification from a technical school or Associates degree in a related field is desired.
- Must have 1 – 2 years of related experience with HVAC equipment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office, Word, and Excel is desired.

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
