The Phoenix Police Department's Fiscal Management Bureau is seeking a skilled and motivated Building Maintenance Worker to help protect, maintain, and improve our police facilities. This journey-level position performs a wide variety of building maintenance, repair, and construction tasks to ensure our facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained. Key Responsibilities Include Performing commercial drywall repair and installation.Repairing and installing commercial doors, frames, and locking systems.Conducting commercial plumbing repairs and troubleshooting issues.Installing and repairing a variety of commercial flooring systems.Completing repairs on commercial roofing systems.Rebuilding partitions and performing carpentry using shop tools.Repairing or replacing interior and exterior windows, furniture, and related fixtures.Painting interior and exterior surfaces.Performing plaster patching and minor cooling system repairs.Estimating, ordering, and tracking materials for assigned projects.Pulling, operating, and securing department trailers.Safely operating power tools and shop equipment.Responding to facility repair requests, assessing needs, and creating work orders.Working independently or as part of a team, occasionally leading small crews, while selecting appropriate methods, tools, and materials to complete tasks effectively and support ongoing improvements to facility operations and customer service. IDEAL CANDIDATE Knowledge Of/skilled In The occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work.Installing, maintaining, and repairing door components which include; locks, closures, door frames and hinges.The use and care of hand tools and power equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks. Ability To Calculate cost, labor and material estimates by performing arithmetic functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebra.Troubleshoot requested repairs in various trades and create work orders by telephone or computer to send to Public Works. SALARY Pay Range: $26.70 to $39.45 per hour. Hiring Range: $26.70 to $32.46 per hour. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. For more details, visit: Unit 001 Benefits Minimum Qualifications Three years of skilled level experience in building maintenance and repair work, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades.Completion of an acceptable apprenticeship program.OR Six years of trades experience, three of which are at the skilled level, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades.Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: 3 years of experience with Commercial drywall, plumbing, and roofing system repairs. 3 years of experience Installing and repairing commercial flooring. 3 years of experience safely operating power tools.1 year of experience pulling trailers.
