Location: Nashville, TN – Riverbend Maximum Security Institution, Department of Correction. A Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) screening and criminal background check are required.

Overview

Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled building maintenance work of average difficulty. This role involves a variety of tasks including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and general mechanical repair work.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies maintenance issues to repair or escalate.
  • Performs repair work using diagrams, drawings, or maintenance manuals.
  • Operates tools and equipment such as hand and power tools, plungers, sewer rodders, drills, skill saws, and grinders.
  • Provides direction and oversight to others as needed.
  • Inspects electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical systems (HVAC, laundry, food service equipment), and removes/replaces defective parts.
  • Performs routine repairs on standard work equipment.
  • Rewires electrical outlets and breaker boxes; performs routine electrical tasks.
  • Repairs windows, doors, flooring, woodwork, drywall, and other building structures.
  • Performs basic carpentry tasks and minor HVAC repair.
  • Handles minor construction, plumbing, landscaping, janitorial, and basic welding tasks.
  • Reviews preventative maintenance plans to ensure equipment runs smoothly and building systems operate efficiently.
  • Conducts daily walk-through inspections of facilities.
  • Communicates with outside vendors and customers to provide basic customer service.
  • Provides expert advice on payment and application processes.
  • May operate state-issued vehicles such as pickup trucks, golf carts, or watercraft.

Requirements

  • Experience equivalent to three years of full-time increasingly skilled labor and trade work, including at least two years in building maintenance.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Complete a criminal history disclosure form and agree to release records involving criminal history.
  • Supply a fingerprint sample for a TBI-based criminal history records check.
  • Submit to a review of status on the Department of Health’s vulnerable persons registry.

Monthly: $3,229.00 - $4,852.00
Annual: $38,748.00 - $58,224.00
